5 Ways to Healthy Summer Holidays after WLS

It’s finally summer!  Long days, warm nights, and hopefully a bit of rest and relaxation.  Whether this summer includes a staycation, a long trip abroad, or weekend getaways, we have some suggestions for ensuring healthy summer holidays after WLS. 

Find Balance with Foods

Trips often mean that our food routines get a bit interrupted. We aren’t always as in control of our options depending on where we go and what we do.  Eating out, having more food on the go, trying new things, etc.  To help, it can be a good idea to plan ahead. What restaurants are there that have healthy options?  What can I bring with me or grab at the supermarket while I’m away? Are there protein bars, powder, or other snacks that would be good to have on hand?  This is not to say you can’t indulge. Just find that balance you will likely feel better and stay healthy during your summer holidays.

Include Active Activities 

While relaxing activities like swaying in the hammock or lying on the beach can be nice, adding some active activities to the list is, too! Long walks through a new city.  Swimming at the lake.  Hikes through the woods.  Biking along trails. Summer can be a good time to try new things as well.  Have you been paddleboarding?  Played frisbee golf?  Gone rock climbing?  There are so many ways to stay active in the summer whether you are near or far!

Stay Hydrated

It can be difficult to stay hydrated even with normal routines after bariatric surgery. Getting out of those routines plus adding some summer heat can make hydration even more tricky. Keep a water bottle with you, make sure to drink extra water if consuming alcohol, and eat hydrating foods (watermelon anyone?).
